The Project of Joint Research of Atmospheric Pollution Characteristics in Xi’an Terracotta Worriers Museum Passed Acceptance

   On April 4, 2009, the conference for acceptance and accreditation of the Project of Joint Research of Atmospheric Pollution Characteristics in Xi’an Terracotta Worriers Museum carried out by CAS Earth Environment Institute, Xi’an Terracotta Worriers Museum, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and US Desert Institute was held in Xi’an smoothly. Since March 2005, the research team led by the project person-in-charge Academician An Zhisheng and Director Wu Yongqi, through joint efforts for more than three years, of more than 20 scientists from the four parties, including Research Fellow Cao Junji, has completed various tasks as project design and gained good achievements. With the project, an atmospheric environmental observation system has been set up in and out of the Terracotta Pit, and detailed evaluation on content level, time-space distribution, source and trend of development of key atmospheric pollutants has been made. In addition, a team specializing in research of relics environment has been trained in the Terracotta Worriers Museum, and series research papers from the project have been published in domestically and internationally major academic periodicals. Achievements from the project will play very important role in effectively improving relic environment and putting forward countermeasures for control and treatment on the basis of scientific mastering relic preservation environment. Implementation of the project has made outstanding contributions to research of relic protection in Shaanxi Province and around China, and high-level scientific and technological contributions to better protecting relic of Emperor Qin’s Terracotta Worriers and other world cultural heritages in China.  

 

  

 More than 30 leaders, experts and scholars attended the acceptance conference, including Zhou Weijian,  Vice Chairman of Shaanxi Committee of CCPCC and professors Judith C. Chow and John G. Watson, etc
