A&WMA is now the largest association in Environmental Science & Engineering. For more than 100 years, since A&WMA was founded, it has been dedicated to environmental protection, the development of air pollution control technology and waste management, as well as the promotion of academic exchange for scientists in this field. A&WMA has more than 9000 members in 65 countries all over the world. The China Chapter of A&WMA was founded in October 2008 with a membership of 30 from domestic universities, research institutes and instrument suppliers. Professor Cao Junji from Institute of Earth Environment, China Academy of Sciences (IEECAS) served as the President of the China Chapter and Professor Zhang Renjian from Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) assumed the Vice Presidentship.
At the 1st conference of China Chapter,A&WMA, A&WMA Board Member, President of Publishing Committee, Professor Judith Chow attended the conference. She gave a specialized introduction of the Air&Waste Management Association(A&WMA). John Watson, Subeditor of Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association (JAWMA) and other representatives from IEECAS, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, Nanchang University, Beijing Monitor Environment Technology Ltd., in all more than 30 members attended the conference. As to the Special Conference of A&WMA, from 10 May to 13 May, 2010, in Xi’An, P.R.China, to be held outside the USA for the first time, members are now discussing in detail the preparations for such a major international conference.
